Director of Special Education & Principal

I graduated from undergrad at Hamline University with a biology and psychology degree.  I soon fell in love with social work so I went back to school at the U of MN for my masters in social work.  I worked as a clinical social worker for many years-including residential, shelter, group homes, schools, Ramsey County and currently at ChildrensMN hospital (the last 18 years) doing suicide mental health assessments, trauma work and grief work on the weekends.  After awhile, I decided to go back and get my educational administrative license at St. Cloud and am licensed as a principal and Special Education Director so that I could impact systems.  I have worked in a charter school and traditional public schools as well as a federal setting 4 special education intermediate school.

In terms of me personally, I grew up on a farm and carry that culture with me.  My family and I still own that farm, which my brother and his family now farm.  I love many things; including reading, gardening, hiking, cross stitching, crocheting, scrapbooking and quilting.  I also love connecting with my friends and family and treasure the time we have together.  I have 4 adult children, 2 daughters in law and one grandson.

My goal in coming at UMA is to support mental health support for our students, equity in all areas, including discipline, and engage in the development of restorative practices at UMA.
