On January 18, 2023 the Upper Mississippi Academy Board of Directors adopted a Land Acknowledgement, Smudging Policy, Graduation Regalia Policy and a Leave to Vote in Tribal Elections Policy that were created by the Upper Mississippi Academy Indigenous People Advisory Committee.

This Land Acknowledgement was created by the Upper Mississippi Academy Indigenous People Advisory Committee during the 2022-2023 school year to inform the Upper Mississippi Academy community about the history of the land Upper Mississippi Academy is currently and has been located on, as well as the original peoples of this land and the historical impact of education on the Indigenous peoples of the United States.

As stated in this Land Acknowledgement Upper Mississippi Academy is committed to supporting our Native American, Alaskan Native and First Nations students, staff, families and community, as well as taking action to make amends for the harm caused to Native American, Alaskan Native and First Nations peoples, this document provides a first step in this process.

This Land Acknowledgement will be posted on the Upper Mississippi Academy website, displayed at Upper Mississippi Academy and will be read at Upper Mississippi Academy events. This is a living document and will be adjusted in consultation with the Upper Mississippi Academy Indigenous People Advisory Committee.
