UMA Update July 24

UMA Update July 24

An update on information shared with us this week:
1. Governor’s Executive Order 20-81 was issued requiring Minnesotans to Wear a Face Covering in Certain Settings to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 starting on Saturday, July 25 2020. We have been notified by MDE and the MN Commissioner of Education that this does include schools.
UMA Response:  UMA will provide two (2) cotton cloth face masks (4 ply w/ adjustable ear loops) for each staff member and each student. In addition, we are asking families to be prepared to support the school by having these or other masks or shields available for their student(s) everyday that they are in the building.  Additionally, each staff member will be provided with a clear face shield that meet the MDH guidelines for educators.
2. MDE stated today (7/23/20) that information regarding requirements and recommendations for opening school will be given to school leaders on July 30, 2020.
UMA Response: We will host Family Focus groups on July 31 and August 3 based on feedback from the Family Survey and MDE notifications.  Information on signing up for these opportunities will be sent early next week.
3. UMA start date is August 31, 2020.
UMA Response:  UMA will send out the Framework for Learning 20-21 no later than August 7, 2020.  This may seem like a late date – but it is only 7 days after the official release of information.

We are diligently working on many aspects of opening school just five weeks from now.  We are excited to create a safe and productive learning environment for all of UMA – and to keep it flexible enough to support any additional changes we may encounter this year.
