UMA Update August 18

UMA Update August 18

UMA Community –

This information is being shared with all students/families this evening via email as this change may affect some transportation arrangements for younger students as well.

As we have continually communicated to staff, students and parents/guardians, in addition to being eligible to offer a hybrid learning model, it is the ratio of staff to students requesting/available to be in the building that drives whether or not we offer a hybrid learning model during this school year.  The safety of all members of our community is supported by staff and family/household choice on working/attending from a distance or within a hybrid model.

As of August 17, 2020, the ratio of HS students and HS staff does not allow UMA to provide a HS hybrid program at the start of the school year.  HS will move to a full distance learning model to begin the school year.  We will revisit the HS instructional model during conferences in October to see if any data has changed and determine if a HS hybrid model may be offered for Quarter 2, if our county level data continues to be acceptable. This will give everyone a chance to re-evaluate their situation and again voice a preference for a learning model.

As of August 17, 2020, the ratio of MS students and MS staff does allow UMA to provide a MS hybrid program at the start of the school year.  MS will move forward with a hybrid model to begin the school year.  Calls to students/households will begin this week as teachers return to school and begin connecting with their advisory students.

If your scenario and decision have changed since completing the Family Info google form, please contact Sally Spreeman at sally.spreeman@umissacademy.org or 651.528.8091 as soon as possible.

For starting school on August 31, 2020 at UMA:

MS (grades 6,7,8) – hybrid model or distance learning as requested

HS (grades 9, 10, 11, 12) – full distance learning for all students

For all families/students new to UMA, orientation will be held in small groups August 25 – 27, 2020.  Advisory teachers will be in contact with families beginning later this week to schedule this opportunity.

Please watch for more detailed information to your email on Thursday, August 20, 2020. We appreciate all of the strong support for UMA staff and families as we move forward together into this new school year.
